Converting documents to PDF while retaining formatting

I need help in finding a way to convert documents to PDF on the fly
while still retaining formatting and metadata that I can use in an
application that I'm working on.

I've looked at various open source libraries like iTextSharp, but
unless I've missed something, they haven't been able to do the above.

So is there anyone that can help me find a way to do this?

PDF’s support for formatting is exemplary, and it does support a certain
amount of metadata. You haven’t said exactly what you want to preserve, we
would need to know that before being able to help you.
