PDF 1.7: knows about paper selection?

Date:Fri, 12 Dec 2008 14:05:51 +0100

Hello,

I have seen that PDF 1.7 and Adobe Acrobat 8.0 bring new features such
as paper selection (see e.g.
http://www.acrobatusers.com/blogs/leonardr/2006/09/18/whats-new-in-pdf-17/
or http://www.lowagie.com/iText/history.html).

What is not clear to me is whether paper selection is part of the
Acrobat 8 _product_ or part of the PDF 1.7 _standard_. Does anyboy have
the answer?

Thanks in advance

Pascal

If my interpretation of the following is correct, it isn't part of
PDF itself:

http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/Professional/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd615109794195ff-7bcb.w.html

Note that it isn't just a printer-settings file that you can link to
your PDF but also a 'Job Description Format' (JDF) file which can record
just about any aspect of the workflow whatever - this seems to be
an alluring utility for the 'professional' market that Adobe wants
to attract, makes 'paper settings' look like a poxy little detail
for the rest of us ordinary mortals.
