Thanks for the suggestions. I have added PDF ReDirect and will look at
the other two in more detail. We've also added Solid PDF Creator
(recently free) to the list.

You can use www.4xpdf.com if you're looking for something shorter. ;-)

Here are two more:
CIB pdf brewer (either free for personal use, or low cost)
http://www.cib.de/english/products/pdf/cibpdfplugin.htm
The free version has limited functionality in that you cannot select the
fonts to be embedded, and it has jpeg compression (for bitmap images)
disabled.
Advantage: It neither needs a PostScript printer driver nor does it need
Ghostscript, and it is really fast.

Advantage: Does not need installation. FreeDist.exe is ready to run.
Needs a PostScript printer driver (.ppd and .inf file to install a
PostScript printer are also offered on the webpage) and Ghostscript
