pdf from Excel 'fit to page'

Date:Thu, 4 Dec 2008 08:26:22 +0100

I am creating a pdf file from a page in Excel that is reduced in size
to 'fit to page' - but the margins in the pdf file are wider than if
printed directly from Excel. Is there anything I can do about this?

Probably the length of the document is forcing the exaggerated margins.
When you select "fit to page" it is doing it proportionately.

Thanks for the quick reply. It is one page of A4, set with mimnimum
printer margins in Excel (1.3cm) but when printed from pdf gives
margins of about 1.8cm.

I will try reducing font sizes in Excel to get it to be printing at
100%, but that will require quite a bit of work (its a regular report
that has different percentage shrink each month).

I am using PrimoPdf (a free programme) to create the pdf file, and
that programme does not have the ability to set page margins - do I
need to buy a different programme?

I believe PrimoPDF uses the margins set in the original Excel document
except when you select proportional.

To demonstrate, play with the top and bottom margins in Excel. A 2" top and
bottom margins will make your PDF file have even greater side margins.
Minimize the top and bottom margins in the Excel document will make the side
margins smaller.

You may be able to get what you want if you widen some of the Excel columns.
